COCA COLA HELLENIC

AUTOMATED HIGH BAY WAREHOUSE

Logistex has completed a new automated high-bay rack-clad warehouse in Ploiesti for Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company (CCHBC), on time and within budget. The project was delivered within a demanding timescale without affecting on-site production.

The new system replaces manual handling, will enable CCHBC to meet growth in the Romanian market and increase pallet handling capacity by 33%. As well as providing increased volume up time and a more efficient delivery process, the project gives a more predictable cost base and a significant reduction in energy use.

FEATURES

  • Single storage facility with direct link to adjacent production

  • 30m high pallet rack with 34,848 pallet positions served by eleven, twin pallet handling stacker cranes

  • Completed on time and in budget

THE CLIENT'S BRIEF

CCHBC identified the need to consolidate stock into a single unit next to its existing production facility, removing the need for inter-site vehicle movements. An automated facility was required to use space more effectively, provide greater stock management and control and equip the company to handle anticipated further demand for its products. CCHBC was particularly insistent that the work had to be managed to minimise downtime during installation and that the supplier should provide guarantees that the system would be completed within a very tight timescale.

THE LOGISTEX SOLUTION

Two automated powered conveyors ˆ installed 3.5m above floor level to provide maximum usable floor space ˆ bring palletised finished goods from six production line feeds into the warehouse, at up to 290 pallets per hour. They are taken into the high-bay storage area which provides efficient use of space coupled with fast access to products. The 30m high pallet rack structure has a storage capacity of 34,848 pallets and is served by eleven, twin pallet handling stacker cranes that store and retrieve pallets automatically. With an aisle only 1.54m wide, the cranes make ultra- effective use of cube space.
