Logistex awarded contract to deliver £3.74 million pounds upgrade to the automated system at the National Distribution Centre of Hull based Health and Safety experts Arco.

Leading supplier and integrator of automated materials handling systems Logistex, has recently been awarded the contract to enable Arco to fulfil its ambitious growth plans to further increase throughput. A series of enhancements are underway to the automated systems at Arco’s National Distribution Centre (NDC) which Logistex originally installed when the building was erected in 2000.

Arco’s award winning distribution centre is a landmark in Hull with 27,796sqm of storage space, it holds almost 22,000 products in stock and operates 24 hours a day, 5 days a week shipping over 20,000 picks per day – anything from a pair of protective gloves to a fall arrest system.

Since the original install, Logistex has supported Arco’s automated system with a four strong site based engineering team responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive planned preventative maintenance programme, as well as providing an immediate response to any issues which stop or slow system throughput.

As the NDC is run by Logistex Warehouse Management and Warehouse Control Software, Arco has access to 24/7 systems support provided remotely by ADSL link by the Logistex Hotline and PLC Systems Support Teams based at the Logistex Kettering Head Office.

Neil Griffiths, Arco’s Divisional Director for Logistics said “The enhancements to the system delivered under the new project will increase the throughput of the existing facility by almost fifty percent, and have been designed and developed by close cooperation between Arco’s logistics experts and the Logistex Solutions Design Team.”

The project will take a total of fourteen months to complete and will be delivered into the live working environment with both Logistex and Arco working in partnership enabling Arco to operate the NDC as normal whilst the enhancements are installed and commissioned.

Thomas Martin and Neil Jowsey, Arco’s Joint Managing Directors said: “This project is testament to the strength of our business, which comes from our firm commitment to sustained investment in our company and in the local area. Last year we launched our own Product Quality and Assurance Laboratory to ensure that our customers are using the best safety products on the market whilst meeting the highest standards. The enhancements we are making at the NDC will make staying safe even easier, with product availability and delivery improvements also assured.”
