Logistex, Wincanton and Jungheinrich employees came together to take part in a Soap Box Derby to raise money for Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice. Bluebell Wood offers care and support to children with a shortened life expectancy, both in their own homes and at the hospice in North Anston. The charity gives families the chance to relax, take a break and have fun, and helps to support the whole family.
To begin with, the team designed a Soap Box Derby car and theme. The first hurdle was finding an appropriate chassis and steering system. Eventually, after a few phone calls, The Leeds Golf Car Company kindly donated a Golf buggy complete with wheels and chassis free of charge. Within 1 week, the vehicle was completely stripped down and prepared for its new life as ‘B&Q Prime.’
The team was made up of Logistex, Wincanton and Jungheinrich employees all working closely together. This was a great partnership which saw different parties working together to achieve the same goal. In the end we were all winners for the support that was given to Bluebell Wood. The money is being collected and will be donated at the end of the year.
To our amazement, the cart did extremely well coming in joint fourth with 47 seconds – only 3 seconds behind first place, and came runner up in the most innovative design.
