Last week saw old friends and new faces come together at the fifth annual Logistex User Group to talk about all things automated. The event provides a platform for customers and users of the LWS Reflex Warehouse Management System to learn about new developments, discuss processes with other users and share strategies and ideas with likeminded individuals.
Monday evening provided an excellent opportunity for networking with drinks and dinner at the Priest House Hotel in Castle Donington. The conversation was flowing and a great evening was had by all.
This year’s event was hosted by United Biscuits who kicked off the morning with an overview of their company as well as some exciting updates on ongoing projects and their commitment to continuous improvement from UB’s General Manager Mike Howells. Other items on the agenda included presentations from Van Riet, Jakob Hatteland and a thought provoking talk on the PACE initiative from Coode Associates.
In the afternoon, delegates were shipped off in executive minibuses for a tour of the United Biscuits MDC in Ashby-De-La-Zouch. This gave delegates a chance to share some new ideas and to get some fresh air to help with a few sore heads from the night before (brought on by the flowing conversation of course!).
On arrival back at the hotel, it was straight back to work as engaging discussion groups began on the following topics which had been previously selected and voted for by attendees:
- Analytex – experience of getting the best out of the system?
- How to make better use of the height of a building i.e. mezzanine areas
- Combining automated and manual traffic inside and outside the warehouse. What to think about? Separate lanes/flows?
- Are there any examples of scalability e.g. turnover £25m to £40m over 5 years? What were the impacts on your current Logistex WMS and how would/have these been resolved?
- Use of Analytex for KPI reporting
- Multi-deep racking
- SAP interfaces
- Wooden pallets management from reception to the end customer and market recovery
The afternoon drew to a close with the announcement of the winners of a competition to become proud owners of McVitie’s trucks – well done Stefan Hjerpe, Dan Hardwicke and Mike Walls!
Overall the event was a huge success and was enjoyed by all, with one attendee saying it was a ‘genuinely helpful and great day; I leave with a ton of ideas to go and try to convince work to adopt.’ Delegates also left with a ton of food as UB provided goodie bags packed full of biscuits!
Thank you to United Biscuits for being amazing hosts!
